N2  - Modern combat ships have to accommodate numerous different electronic systems and dedicated antennas (as many as fifty in one ship according to this article) each with its own discrete function - surveillance, communications, EW, SIGINT, threat identification, fire control systems and navigation. All these require space both above and below deck.
