Communal violence in Indonesia: lessons from Kalimantan PDF FILE - Jakarta: ICG, 2001 - 40p. - ICG Asia report no 19 .

Analysis of the etnic violence that occurred in Central Kalimantan February 2001 between indigenous Dayaks and immigrant Madurese during which at least 500 died and as a result of which virtually all Madurese migrants fled. Asks why the animosity between these two groups was so great, why the violence was not contained sooner, and what could have been done to prevent it. Recommends some courses of action and suggests ways to minimise if not prevent future incidents in both Kalimantan and elsewhere in Indonesia. Digital version only. No hard copy available.
