A violent peace: global security after the Cold War - London: Brassey's, 1992 - 209p.

Contrasts post WW2 choices available to the US and its allies with opportunities now available for a New World Order. Reviews the process of global militarisation to the end of the cold War and beyond with particular attention paid to nuclear, chemical, and conventional weapons of mass destruction. Considers the capacity of the North to project military force worldwide, and looks in detail at the Gulf War as a conflict over mineral resources fought with devastating new weapons. Global pressures of population, resources depletion, and wealth disparities are reviewed and likely patterns of North South conflict indicated. Concludes by considering some alternative approaches to the creation of a peaceful New World Order.
