<br/><br/> Review of the role of exchanges and dialogues between the USA and China since 1972 (the year of President Nixon's first visit). Finds that such dialogues are considered important by both parties but that the reality of military exchanges shows their lmitations. Dialogues are enablers of improved relations but it is policy makers in both countries who drive or constrain such developments.
