<br/><br/> In ASEAN countries, the history of draco-nian laws can be traced back to colonial times. Almost all the nations in South East Asia have been colonised by either one of the bipolar powers of the Cold War era: the Communists and the Alliance. This article gives an overview on the internal security laws enacted during this era, serving two main objectives: ensuring the security of a nation's citizens and maintaining the sovereignty of the ruling powers.
