Three legacies of humanitarianism in China /

China is increasing its role in the field of international assistance but this activity has attracted some criticism as aid tends to be on a government to government basis even when the recipient government is part of the problem. This article considers why China's approach differs from typical Western models, and suggests the international aid community should "be more open minded about the possibility of plural international humanitarian systems".
