"Unmanned systems are being used in the maritime environment to support a wide variety of operations across the full range of peacetime, crisis and wartime missions. Unmanned surface vehiclees (USV) are playing a significant role within this scheme. As unmanned surface operations have been limited to just target practice for many years, a much wider set of naval capabilities are now being provided by USV, ranging from maritime security missions to mine countermeasures (MCM) and force protection operations."
