About the employment of cruise missiles by the Australian Defence Force. Modern technologies have contributed to the change in the nature of war. A cruise missiles is a precision guided munition depending on the characteristic of the warhead. The development that led up to the acquisition of cruise missiles in ADF beginning 1980 looks into the cost and effectiveness it also looks at the accuracy of cruise missiles, Australia is legally obliged to make sure they abide to the law of armed conflict interm of ensuring its accuracy reliability. The paper looks into Australia's rationale for acquiring cruise missiles defensive strike against approaching invasion forces without the risk of incurring humkan cost in the environment of an arms covert capability (submarines). Other political factors such as deterrence like having the capability, a lower political cost, the escalatory gap status this has and it can be a potential for mutual deterrence the features of operational employment of cruise missiles, to complement, support shorter range strike weapons. There are also other uses suited to the cruise missiles capabilities the paper ends with asking if cruise missiles are military and politically necessary for ADF. They are not adaptable and limited in its capabilities and uses. Hence it should not be the seen as a new capability but rather in enhancement.
