It describes the rudiments of tactics in land combat in a manner that will permit the analyst to use his special skills and insights to grasp te essence of the land combat problem without having to wade through a shelf full of military texts. The structuring of forces on land and their command and control is in contrast a complex and necessarily diffuse phenomenon. Land forces occupy terrain semipermanently , the influence of air and sea forces on land is always temporary.
