The FARC: a defeated force or resurgent enemy?/ Matt Ince - 2012

There has been a call for reopening of peace negotiations between FARC and the Colombian government. Nevertheless recent attempts by FARC to step up its attacks and diversify its income stream - combined with concerns that the group may become more fragmented under its new leadership - have left many to question whether or not it is just becoming one more criminal organisation among the many currently operating within and across Colombia's borders, more preoccupied with consolidating control over the region's major drug-trafficking routes than with its traditional Marxist agenda.
