Eversince the announcement of US Defense Secretary, Robert Gates to cancel further production of the Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor, traditional customers of US aircraft such as the Republic of Korea Air Force, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the Royal Australian Air Force are left to reconsider other aircraft producation programmes namely, China and Russia. This article provides a look at the situation and analyses what direction will Asia take towards fulfilling the next-generation tactical air requirements.
