<br/><br/> Sets out the distinction (in America at least) beween COIN - a currently popular 'intellectual fad' - and counterinsurgency - 'war against non-state actors using unconventional means' which has been going on for centuries. Argues that current theory is based on a very limited set of instances and suggests broadening the data set to provide better information and thus more realistic understanding of how to win such conflicts.
