HERTLING Mark

What's going on in basic training?/ Mark Hertling. - 2010

LTG discusses how the US Army is adapting basic training to take account of the physical and mental attributes of today's recruits and to meet the operational requirements of continuing combat. Recruits are much less fit even compared to intakes only a few years earlier, suffer many more serious injuries in training, and are "from a society increasingly removed from the values and standards of discipline that we claim as an important part of our professional ethos". The Army's current directive is "train fewer tasks, well".
