Understanding support for Islamist militancy in Pakistan
Jacob N. Shapiro and C. Chrsitine Fair.
- 2009
Analysis of data from a survey of urban Pakistanis that tried to identify reasons for support for militancy. Found that commonly cited reasons were generally not supported by the survey, that is: no links with poverty, personal religiousness, or the stated political goals of Islamist parties, neither was there negative correlation between support for democracy and militancy. Identifies policy implications that can be drawn from these findings.
