MERARI Ariel

Personality characteristics of 'self martyrs'/'suicide bombers' and organizers of suicide attacks / Ariel Merari ... [et al.]. - 2010

Report of direct psychological examination of suicide or martyrdom terrorists based on clinical psychological interviews and tests of failed Palestinian suicide terrorists, a control group of non-suicide terrorists, and a group of suicide terror organizers. Found that would-be suicide bombers tended to have lower ego strength, to be more susceptible to influence, be impulsive or emotionally unstable, and more likely than the control group to show signs of depression.
