"In the aftermath of 9-11, leadership targeting of terrorist organizations has become a key feature of counterterrorism policies" (author's introduction). Based on an analysis of leadership targeting events between 1945 and 2004 this article seeks to identify whether such targeting is effective and if so in what circumstances. Suggests that an organizations age and size are important factors in whether or not it will survive loss of leadership.
