South Korea attempts first space launch/ Peter Crail - 2009

South Korea carried out its inaugural space launch attempt on 25th August 2009, seeking for the first time to place a satellite in orbit using its own rocket. This launch occurs at a time when tensions between North and South Korea appear to be easing, as Pyongyang has taken steps to improve relations between the two countries. At the same time, there have also been talks that South Korea has sought to extend the range of its missiles limitations in which the outcome of negotiations between the U.S. and South Korea has it that the former did not trust Seoul to abide by the guidelines on these limitations.
