The first part of this illustrated article gives an overview of the requirements of modern military logistics vehicles noting that the trend is to adapt commercial heavy-duty trucks designed for industrial off-road applications. This is another example of the COTS approach. Describes state-of-the-art in compenents such as engines and transmissions, electronics, wheels and tyres, protection, and load handling. The second part describes a range of these vehicles produced in Australia, Europe, USA and South Africa.
