In the preface Bates Gill, SIPRI's new Director notes the continuing fragmentation of violence in regional conflicts and the growing role of non-state actors; also notes the possibility that arms control discussions may become more prominent. Main sections are: Part I covers security and conflicts in 2007 including peacekeeping missions; Part II military spending and armaments transfers; Part III Non-proliferation and arms control includes survey of U.S.A. ballistic missile defende programmes, and public health diplomacy and avian flu. As always the book contains extensive statistical information on military expenditures, international arms trade, and weapons inventories. Annex B includes details of international arms control organisations.
