<br/><br/> Examines the relatively new USN initiative known as the Global Maritime Partnership (GMP).  It highlights the key characteristics of the GMP concept and surveys the challenges, using the Malacca Straits as an example.  It then describes recent developments which signal an improving climate for multilateral cooperation before suggesting ways to implement the concept in the Malacca Straits.
