China's military capability is changing rapidly with several new advanced systems in development or deployed, but it is less clear what this means for global and regional security. The Malacca Strait is a particular concern for China because 80% of its oil transits there, meanwhile on the wider stage China sends mixed signals, and American supremacy is no longer a certainty.
