Argues that recent measures intended to improve the economic conditions of developing countries by further liberalizing world trade have not achieved their aims and do not deserve to be called development rounds. This book draws on research undertaken for the Commonwealth Secretariat to identify what a fair trade agreement that truly reflected the interests and concerns of the developing world would be like. Starts with a short history of trade development efforts, and continues with analysis of shortcomings in present arrangements, then looks at the elements of an improved system of world trade.
