<br/><br/> The New People's Army (NPA), a Maoist insurgency group, has begun attacking foreign owned or operated mines in Mindanao. According to this report the objective is not to force the mines to close but to use them as a source of weapons and equipment. Consequently the attacks are likely to remain relatively low key.
