HANEY Eric L

Beyond shock and awe : warfare in the 21st century/ edited by Eric L Haney with Brian M Thomsen - New York : Berkley, 2007 - 258 p.

In this edited collection retired Command Sergeant Major Haney suggests that the US military of the 21st century finds itself in a position similar to that of the British army at the end of the 19th century, i.e. dealing mostly with small conflicts in widely scattered locations against generally asymmetric forces. Considers what happens when things do not go according to political plan, the effect of technological developments, knowledge based warfare, hearts and minds in the future, and concludes by recommending that the US uses its current dominant position to experiment and innovate to maintain the edge.
