A month of misery - 2008

The aftermath created by Cyclone Nargis left Myanmar's Irrawaddy Delta in devastation but Myanmar's military junta has done little in accepting assistance from foreign aid workers to provide food and shelter for the many victims. However, just shortly before UN's secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon's meeting with the junta's leader General Than Shwe, the regime gave the UN's World Food Programme permission to bring in ten helicopters to ferry supplies to the delta. This brief article assesses the situation.
