In the past overseas Chinese have often been the subject of envy (because of perceived business ability) and suspicion (because of doubts about loyalty) which could turn into open resentment as in May 1998. Discusses steps taken by Indonesia to remove discriminative policies (affecting many groups not just Chinese) showing that these will be beneficial for the nation as a whole.
