Sets the rebellion firmly in context by dealing in the first two chapters with Brunei's history in the period up to, then during and the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. Chapter 3 covers the lead up to Malaysian independence and the possibility of Brunei's joining the federation. Chapters 4 and 5 cover the rebellion itself, while Chapter 6 considers whether the rebellion was in fact a precursor to Indonesia's confrontation. The concluding chapter briefly discusses the aftermath and Brunei's subsequent development.
