Major General Dare Wilson's academic life was cut short by the outbreak of the Second World War, and not resumed for a further 33 years of military life during which he commanded the SAS, and became first Director of Army Aviation. On leaving the Army he completed his university education and began a second career in civilian life. In between work General Dare participated in sports such as skiing, bobsleighing, and sky diving (including leading the SAS team that set a world free fall altitude record).
