Summary: During the Second World War Thailand sided with Japan and in 1942 declared war on Britain and America. However in the USA and UK Free Thai movements were being established with the support of those countries special operations units. Politically the situation was complicated because the Free Thai units were acting against the Thai military government and the British and Americans had different reasons for supporting the Free Thai - the latter eventually becoming two distinct and opposed entities. China also had an interest in the outcome assuming like the US and UK that Japan would lose the war. This book gives the history of events leading to Thailand's involvement in the Second World War, the creation and operation of the Free Thai movements, and the aftermath. Draws on recently released archives of both SOE and OSS.
