Critical study of UN led peace operations in the early years of the 21st century (although some were begun earlier). Areas covered are: Bosnia and Herzegovina after he Dayton Accord; Sierra Leone; Democratic Republic of the Congo; Kosovo; East Timor; and Afghanistan. Each assessment uses a common case structure outlining the problems faced and the solutions devised for them. The main focus is on the Peace Support Operations and "how they work and why the succeed, fail, drift, or recover" (from editors preface).
