Personal account of the Malay Emergency by one of the first National Service British subalterns to be seconded to the Malay Regiment. The book starts with a short account of National Service, Malaya in the early 1950s, and the origin of the Emergency. The main part of the book tells the author's experiences as a platoon leader in 1953-54 with annotated extracts from letters he wrote at the time. The remaining chapters are a commentary on the Emergency and on Chin Peng.
