Soft power describes a nation's ability to attract and persuade, whereas hard power (usually military or economic force) is about coercion. In this discussion of soft power Joseph Nye Jr. urges the United States to recognise its importance - in the prevention of terrorism as much as in dealing with global stability and mluitlateral, and in recognising it to use it.
