Defense and Security Analysis Vol 22 No 2, June 2006, pp.197-202 (94)Summary: Based on interviews this short paper describes the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division use of the Command Post of the Future during Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004-2005. CPOF is a Windows based advanced C2 software and hardware suite that operates in two primary modes: a) GIS style overlays on interactive digital maps and b) a means of communication between Tactical Operations Centres. The paper considers the effect of the CPOF, how it was used and how attitudes towards it evolved, and also the benefits it brought.
