This book has become a standard text at military staff colleges. As the title says it assesses the Vietnam War to see what went wrong in the sense of why did America loose. The conclusion is that the USA ignored the principles of war and did not understand the big picture correctly. Success in logistics and tactics were rendered irrelevant by strategic failure.
