Off the coast of Somalia pirates have taken to using mother ships to launch small boat attacks far from land - one incident was recorded 325 nautical miles from the coast. This article reports on the steps being taken to combat the threat including Combined Task Force 150 (CTF) operating from Bahrain. Also notes the increase in hostage taking, and the reduction in the number of incidents in the Strait of Malacca as a result of improved naval patrols.
