This short report notes the competing efforts of Russia, China, the USA and Japan that are all trying to improve relations with Indonesia as a means of achieving wider influence in Southeast Asia. For example in October Russia sent a five ship flotilla to visit, the first since 1968, emphasising Russia's resurgent naval power in the Asia Pacific.
