'A collection of information and advice for officers in the US Navy, intended to serve primarily as a resource, from their preparation for commissioning through (to) their years as junior officers.' Although specifically written for American personnel, some of the material may be of universal interest. Chapters cover standards of conduct and ethics; personal administration; military etiquette - honours and ceremonies; communication; ship's organization and regulations; ship's organization and functions; the US armed forces in general; the Department of the Navy; the Operational forces of the Navy - including chain of command; the Naval Reserve; foreign affairs; career planning; leadership; command; and retirement. The appendices include the Professional Core Competencies (PCC) Manual for Officer Accession Programs; a professional reading list for basic, intermediate, and advanced level; and an overview of military justice and law.
