COVERAGE AND ARRANGEMENT:Provides all the information at date of publication on major naval ships. Includes details of all but the very smallest combat craft and excludes patrol craft, auxiliaries, logisitic vesels, harbour craft, training ships, coastguard vessels, army vessels and small boats. In general terms, ships below 500 tonnes full load displacement. Volume 1 includes the following sections: Aircraft carriers; Shipboard aircraft - helicopters and fixed-wing; Strategic submarines, ballistic missile, nuclear powered (SSBN); Attack submarines, nuclear powered (SSN); Attack submarines, diesel-electric powered (SSK); Cruisers; and Destroyers.Within each section entries are primarily arranged by country of origin, although the arrangement varies according to vessel. Access to ship and equipment entries is provided by indexes of pennant numbers; of ships' names and classes; of sensors (for command and control systems); and of aircraft and weapons names.
