COVERAGE AND ARRANGEMENT:Although the focus of this encyclopedia is democracy, the 417 articles included in the 4 volumes provide information on 'issues important to an understanding of democracy' - thus, the subject scope actually covers a broad area of politics and government. Articles cover, for example, countries, geographical regions, historical eras, important indvididuals and philosophical conceptsEntries vary in length from 300 to 3,500 words and include bibliographies and cross references. Each volume includes a detailed index. Volume 4 also includes the full-text of primary documents which are illustrative of the emergence and practice of democracy. These include, for example, Magna Carta, Declarations of Independence and Constitutions of various countries.
