From 1967-1970 the state of Biafra attempted to establish itself as independent of Nigeria. During 30 months of violent and bloody civil war during which the Nigerian military junta attempted to crush the cessessionist state, an airlift of food and other supplies into Biafra was carried out. This was operated by unofficial agencies - mainly various Christian charities. The story of this airlift, which probably saved the lives of half a million people, is told by the man who organised it.
