Traces British defence policy for Singapore and Malaya which culminated in the concept of Operation Matador. Envisaged as a forward line of defence against Japanese land based attack and including Thailand the plan was approved by British adminstration but its implementation was stalled by Churchill who believed Singapore to be impregnable.
