This paper aims to analyze Indonesia's democratization process throughout the old order regime, new order regime, and the current reform era. The patterns may have altered significantly in the years following the historical beginning of the reform era in 1998, however, exploration of the dynamic inter-relations of the three elements of democracy - state, economy, and society - is necessary to assess the process of democratization in Indonesia.
