The first, and larger part, of his book is concerned with the historical development of the machine gun and its effect in combat. Discusses the technical developments (and limitations) and how rapid automatic fire weapons were adapted for use on land, at sea, and in the air. The second part of the book comprises an illustrated guide to specific models of weapons. These are presented chronologically with, in most cases a photograph, plus basic technical data and a description.
