Using the Malayan Emergency as the case study, the author analyzes the relevancy of Naval Gunfire Support (NGS), which is proven useful under certain circumstances. As the author points out, the less application of NGS in Afghanistan and Iraq operations did not denote the end of naval role in counterinsurgency, it remains relevant in the contemporary era under the right conditions.
