Laurens van der Post was the most senior British army officer in Java following the Japanese release of POWs at the end of the war. Overnight he found himself in the bizarre position of overseeing the Japanese forces to keep the peace in Java until allied troops arrived. This book takes up the story from 21st August 1945 and includes (in chapter 10) the report he prepared for the Foreign Office on the British Occupation of Indonesia Sept 1945 to Nov 1946.
