Summary: Since the end of the Cold War ethnic conflicts have continued to occur in many parts of the world, yet ethnicity per se is generally not considered the primary cause of such wars. This collection of case studies attempts to understand how ethnicity is exploited for political purposes, and thus how conflicts apparently based on ethnicity might be resolved. Conflicts considered are those in Jammu and Kashmir, Sindh, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Mindanao, and Bougainville. Contributors include Syed Serajul Islam and Peter Chalk.
