It is widely recognised that internal revolutions can lead to international conflict, yet the extent and duration of such conflicts varies considerably. This article suggests that it is helpful to distinguish between revolutions and revolutionary leaders, the latter having characteristics (such as high risk tolerance and political ambition) which are likely to contribute to aggressive positions in international relations.
