Collection of papers from a conference jointly organised by the US Army War College, the Triangle Institute, and Duke University held at Chapel Hill, North Carolina March 2001. The purpose of the conference was to examine the implications of the rise of China for the international community in general and the USA in particular. The papers are arranged in five sections: Great power transitions; is China a security threat?; Asian great powers (covers India, China, Russiam Japan); Flash points in south and east Asia (covers Taiwan, North Korea, the South China Sea and India); and Sino American relations.
