The Ottoman army 1914-18 Turkish empire was one of the leading protagonists in the first world war and the solid courage of the individual Ottoman soldier. The empire had already been in existence for six centuries and was still a formidable force. However improvements to the Ottoman army were more abvious in the European than in he Asian provinces which remained somewhat backward and even retrograde.
