Textbook that provides a wide ranging overview of terrorism and terrorists. Starts by considering the criminology of terrorism, then provides some background on the development of modern terrorism (includes Ireland, Middle East, and Latin America), then addresses the current position in modern terrorism including the question of Palestine, the relationship between terrorism and religion, nationalism, left and right wing extremism (including within the USA). Finally considers several aspects of modern terrorism: technology and weapons of mass destruction, interaction with the media, balancing liberty and freedom with security. The last chapter looks at responses to the 9-11 attacks. Each chapter presents learning points, key concepts, "food for thought", and further readings.
